Meet the Instructor
Pat Symons, owner and principal instructor of Basic to Advanced Firearms Training, LLC, brings over 30 years of experience in teaching handgun safety and shooting courses, alongside his ongoing education and training. With a background in law enforcement and firearms instruction, Pat has worked with individuals of all backgrounds and skill levels, helping them develop the knowledge and skills necessary for safe and effective handgun/shotgun ownership and operation.
Born and raised in Northern California, Pat grew up around firearms and began hunting at an early age. After earning a BA in Criminal Justice from CSU Sacramento, he served as a law enforcement officer (LEO) in both California and Oregon. Following his law enforcement career, Pat transitioned into the gas and energy industry, while remaining deeply involved in firearms practice and instruction.
Throughout his career, Pat has competed in handgun shooting competitions and participated in advanced training, gaining extensive knowledge in handgun safety and operation. He is committed to sharing his wealth of experience to help make his students and the community safer.
